Cannot access DVD in CD/DVD drive to launch movie

Using Ubuntu release 10.10, Totem Movie Player 2.32.0, I expected to be able to access the DVD in my DVD drive to launch the movie I was attempting to watch, instead I got the following: "Could not read the contents of CD/DVD drive" "The file is not a directory"

do you have ubuntu-restricted-extras installed on your system? if its urgent you could always install VLC from the ubuntu software center.

None of the things mentioned below worked.  Not sure where to go from here.  I can read data CDs fine, just can play movies.  Didn't have this with Ubuntu 10.04.

Thanks for the report, it has been some time without any response or feedback in this bug report and we are wondering if this is still an issue for you with the latest release of Ubuntu the Natty Narwhal, May you please test with that version and comment back if you're still having or not the issue?
