Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

Well this is not only for empathy ...
pidgin has the same problem.
1) when I try to connect on QQ, QQ is thinking that I m trying to hanck this account and QQ my QQ account is disabled.
QQ seems to don t be important. But it is used by all chinese speackers.
So it has hundreds millions users.
2) The default version is QQ 2005 -> it should be QQ 2008 or later version.
You can create an account without using chinese version here :

eva, a replacement system of official QQ is working great
the eva project is here :

Just did a fresh install of ubuntu 10.04. (01mar2011)
And still Empathy is failing to connect with QQ.
Before it helped to change qq2005 into qq2008, but this now also didn't work.

(be careful with trying to connect to often, i lost my previous account with doing so)

Likewise - running ubuntu 10.10, never been able to connect to QQ via Empathy despite the whole qq2005 to qq2008 suggestion. would love to see this fixed.

I just installed ubuntu 11.04.

Emphaty is standard set to qq2008, but it's
still not connecting to QQ.

When is this thing going to work ?

I can confirm this. This is especially a problem because QQ's official Linux client is really a sad, sad affair. It doesn't leave many options for those of us on Linux.

Right now QQ support has been dropped from libpurple (and therefore haze) and for now there isn't any immediate plans to make a QQ CM. If there is any interest in someone to maintain a libpurple out-of-tree plugin you're encouraged to check out http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/Scripting%20and%20Plugins

@Brian -- Would it make sense to remove QQ as a client option in the Empathy Accounts menu?

So dropping support is considered like releasing a fix? That's a good mentality.

Can't you use this? http://code.google.com/p/libqq-pidgin/

China is like another planet for so many people.
I want to be able to communicate with my chinese friends.
