QQ account disabled because of protocol error in Pidgin and Empathy

It has been over 16 months QQ chat protocol is unusable in linux.

Pidgin (libpurple) and Empathy (telepathy-haze) with default settings prevent logging into QQ servers because of protocol incompatibility.

Modifying the server version with QQ2008 enables the user to log in only for a very short time (a few hours).
As the original reporter stated back in June 2009 and I presonally confirm today October 2010 (Ubuntu Maverick 10.10, default install) Trencent (the QQ provide) disables all user accounts permanently once they are found using an unofficial version of the client.

The official version of the client linuxqq (available from the official website of QQ) is dated January 2009 and on current versions of Ubuntu crashes after the second sentence typed in and sent to the other party.

eva package, another alternative for QQ, is dated back to 2006.

Windows QQ does not correctly run under wine.

Currently there is no valid alternative to anyone willing to chat using QQ protocol.

I confirm this issue.

Other bug reports #134804 confirm this too and despite being suggested by bugs 533596 and 397257 and others to just replace the server version to qq2008 this actually leads to having the account being disabled very soon by QQ servers.
Another strategy has to be chosen.

linuxqq, the official QQ client for linux suffers from very frequent crashes, lets say every two replies.

Thank you for your email. The problem still exists in Pidgin.

I have created 2 QQ accounts. I use one to test Pidgin so that I won't
loose my main account if something goes wrong.

Most recently, I was using Lucid 32-bit. Pidgin disabled my QQ
immediately after trying to sign on. I signed into Web QQ and
immediately re-enabled my account. Then, I signed onto Gnome Empathy
without any problems.

In any case, Gnome empathy works well for QQ, but Pidgin does not. I
don't know why.

As of today, I am using Maverick. Let me try pidgin for QQ now and see
what I get.

Yeah, same thing in Maverick.

I will be at my computer for the next few hours if you need more

ubuntu 10.04
pidgin 2.7.3 upgraded to 2.7.5, qq buddy list became disoriented, friends shown with red circle and slash in the middle which was suppose to identify unauthorized. Wrong buddy accounts added into the list.

retreated to 2.7.3 and everything gets normal

There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. bye bye QQ then! It'll really be great to have this plugin. It's prouved to be the best linux altenative for QQ on windows.
There is a Web QQ, but it's horribly slow that you can't do anything with it.

Pidgin seems to have disabled qq as an official plugin. We can either ship the unofficial plugin mentioned in comment #9 or wait for upstream to re-integrate libqq as an official plugin. As far as I know there is no upstream bug for the latter.
