grid sends new windows floating

Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

when compiz grid is enabled, i expect new windows not to float, but to be tiled.
what happens instead is that i enable grid, tile one document window to the right half of the screen, then open a new window from the launcher, and the new window is placed above the recently tiled one, floating.

this should not happen, when i'm in grid mode.

instead, the new window should be tiled automatically, sent into the left half, maximized to that "tile".

This is the intended behavior of the plugin.

yes, of course! so.. would it make sense to rethink that then?

No, because the grid plugin is supposed to tile windows to a specific
space on user-action, not automatically.

i still don't see the contradiction..
but on another note.. is there another compiz plugin that would do that with
a little automatic?

The tile plugin was meant to do this, but I don't think it works in
100% of cases. It's a good niche for people to write their own plugins
though.
