Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

Unfortunately, the writer of Winff has decided that it is too difficult to properly fix this. The problem is that the space needed for the buttons and text depend on the font and font-size in your settings.

The language is set in the central location of your desktop (I only know
how to find it for KDE). If you incidentally want to start winff with a
different language, start it from a command prompt (terminal) with the
next line:

LANG=it winff &

Where you replace "it" with the abbreviation for your language.

@ Fabio

It's because my modifications made existent WinFF translations outdated. Now I see this was not really good idea.

You may try to translate /usr/share/winff/languages/winff.it.po by yourself using Poedit. Or you may wait until I figure out how we can use old translations.

Upstream commented that he likes the fixes provided by Alexey Osipov and will likely include them in a new release. When that is done, I will create a new debian package and ask for a sync request to fix this bug.

This bug was fixed in the package winff - 1.3.2-1

---------------
winff (1.3.2-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release
    + greatly improved GUI layout (LP: #695040)
  * Dropping old patches (upstream now)
  * Moved rm line from d/rules to d/clean and don't clean *.lrt files
    because they now contain essential info (but do clean *.lrs files)
  * Updated d/copyright for new upstream notices and files
  * Updated all preset files to fix upstream bug 108, k in stead of kb
    + added patch for upstream presets.xml file

winff (1.3.1-2) experimental; urgency=low

  * Changed buttons to adept to string size (partly Launchpad: #695040)
    debian/patches/buttons_with_variable_width (thanks Alexey Osipov)
