Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

I've installed the first alpha version of Natty Narwhal in Virtualbox. Before I've installed the guest additions I've always got an error message that there is no 3D support and that the gnome-panel will be loaded.
Now I've installed the guest additions. The system works in fullscreen-mode. But neither unity nor the gnome-panel are loaded and I get no error message, just the desktop without menus.

unity only works in Virtualbox 4(its not yet in natty) you can install it by following the instructions here http://www.webupd8.org/2010/12/install-virtualbox-40-stable-in-ubuntu.html

Really just a duplicate? As described above I don't get the error message that no 3D acceleration is available after I've installed the guest-additions. So the fact that Unity doesn't work in Virtualbox 3 might be a bug in Virtualbox. But the fact that Ubuntu doesn't realize this, is an Ubuntu related bug.

virtualbox 4 changelog suggests that it fixes a crash in Unity so you should consider that unity is crashing in virtualbox 3 :)

Indeed. Well, it is more of an unimplemented feature since I don't
think the detection module re-runs on script start.

Err, on driver change, rather.
