Bug Description

I installed linux-backports-modules-alsa-2.6.35-23-generic, following a recommendation in a forum, but this did not solve my problem.
In Lucid, after instaling the linuxant driver, capture in alsamixer showed me an option to select a mic, and selecting mic F made everything work). Now alsamixer doesn't show anything to select a microphone.

No, that was an incorrect recommendation for Maverick. For Maverick, you should not have l-b-m installed. Please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/InstallingLinuxAlsaDriverModules.

@Daniel

Thanks for that info. I removed linux-backports-modules-alsa-2.6.35-23-generic, followed instructions on provided link to install alsa and rebooted the computer.
The problem still remains: the internal mic is not working. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Which mic are you trying to use?

The internal mic (I don't know if this helps, but in Lucid with the conexant drivers installed, I had to select it as Mic F through alsamixer, but in Maverick I do not have the option to do that).

It's the same problem I have but in an HP. I am afraid to apply that package in my hardware...

@David
I solved the problem by installing HDAAnalizer.py following instructions in www.alsa-project.com and follow David Henningsson instructions in the thread I mentioned earlier:

go to node 0x14, and make sure connection 0x17 is selected

After selecting connection 0x17, the internal mic started to work.
Also, I have added options snd-hda-intel model=laptop in alsa-base.conf.

I hope this info helps you find a definite solution to the problem.
Let me know if I can be of help.

I just got a notification that this bug was expired. For all Qosmio owners having this problem, be sure you have:

options snd-hda-intel model=hp-laptop

in the last line of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

If you have doubts on how to do this, please read:
