ant-optional does not contain ant-trax.jar anymore (since 1.8.1) [1]. That is the reason why the package FTBFS. Changing the build-deps to ant1.7/ant1.7-optional should help.

My attempt at a debdiff for this, although attaching two (one ubuntu specific) as I think this is sync'ed from debian so probably just want to patch there and re-sync.

Tom, thanks for your patch. I agree that it would be best to fix this in Debian. However, the Debian maintainers are unlikely to see it here. Could you forward this patch to the Debian BTS (http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting) and link the bug here?

If it gets too late in the Ubuntu release cycle (feature freeze or so) and there's been no response from Debian, then of course we can go ahead and fix this in Ubuntu as needs must.

Based on Colin's comments, I am unsubscribing ubuntu-sponsors for now (there is nothing for us to do atm). Please resubscribe if this needs to be an Ubuntu delta.

Tested on latest sid + experimental ant packages and forwarded to Debian.

We have seen this build failure in a number of packages including tomcat6; rather than revert to a previous version of ant I would recommend that ant-nodeps is included in DEB_JARS (see attached diff)

This will also ensure main -> universe dependencies are correctly maintained at ant1.7 is now in universe and jug is in main.

@James, based on your recommendation, and the comments on the Debian BTS - it looks like we should consider a delta for Natty release. Would you like to make a complete debdiff with changelog?

This bug was fixed in the package jug - 2.0.0-1ubuntu1

---------------
jug (2.0.0-1ubuntu1) natty; urgency=low

  * Updated debian/rules: use ant-nodeps to fix FTBFS (LP: #687979).
  * Moved to source/format: 3.0 (quilt) instead of using
    simple-patchsys.mk.
  * Updated Standards-Version: 3.9.1
