Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

I've been running Dapper under Parallels on an iMac Core Duo.

Brought up a terminal window and entered:

    gksu "update-manager -c"

Download completed successfully and was about 50% into installation. The Distribution Upgrade window says "Installed Python".

An error dialog appeared that says:

    Could not install '/var/cache/apt/archives/hplip_1.6.9-0ubuntu2_i386.deb'

subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 2

I will try to attach the requested log files to this bug report.

According to bug #108091 the same problem still seems to occur on dist-upgrade from Edgy to Feisty.

I still have trouble updating hardy. In my case, the reason seems to be
/usr/share/python-support/hplip not being there (I guess the previous version did not have it)

In any case, upgrades to edgy are no longer supported. Closing as wontfix. Please continue to report problems you find in later versions. Thank you.
