Bug Description

Binary package hint: me-tv

Me-tv was working perfectly OK with a freshly loaded 64 bit version of Mint v10 a month ago, The OS is fully updated, but as soon as I click on the Me-TV Short-cut to access it, The Me-tv screen appears for about one second and goes to blank screen then up comes the Name and password login page, entering these brings me back to normal screen display for Mint 10, no sign of Me-tv, Clicking on the short cut again produces the same problem!
I have tried removing and reinstalling Me-tv and rebooting to no effect just not able to access Me-tv any more. Perhaps an update has effected this program? I have no idea what this could be?
I run Mint V9,64bit on another plug-in drive and Me-tv works perfectly! On this same computer and the same Win TV DVB-T Stick USB. My conclusion is that Mint V10 has a conflict with the Me-TV program to do with the access conflicting with the name and password page?

If you returned to the login screen then your X server has probably crashed. I have also noticed that the X server running on my ATI card was quite unstable. I think that this has been fixed in the last few weeks. Have you also noticed this?

Michael Lamothe, Many thanks for your input suggestion, no I have not noticed if the problem has been fixed, However if you right click on the Me-TV Icon it may be opened by clicking on "Open as administrator" then enter your password and it opens Me-TV perfectly. Having found this way to open it I have been using this method all the time! But I will see if any update has proved to work with a click on the Icon. Thanks again, if you have any questions about Me-TV I do have a comprehensive guide that I have made myself and I could email it to you. Peter, pajival07 at virginmedia.com

Wow, a comprehensive guide, I would like to see that. My email address is plastered all over LP and is in the Me TV about dialog, but here it is again, <email address hidden>. If you are being booted out to the login page then this not a Me TV issue, I can almost guarantee that your X server is crashing. I don't know how you get any support with Mint here, you'll need to raise it with them to see if they are fixing the issue or sending it upstream.

One last thing to try is to use the "-s" option on the command line which starts Me TV in a kind of "safe mode" which will show the preferences dialog without trying to tune to a channel first. From there you'll want to select a difference video driver, xshm is usually a good one. I'm not sure at which point the X server is crashing but it's usually when the video is being rendered i.e. this is just a guess.

Let me know how you go.
