Bug Description

Binary package hint: smplayer

I have this file:
$ mkvmerge -i \[GotWoot\]_Seikimatsu_Occult_Gakuin_01_\[720p_H264\]\[A598C0B4\].mkv
File '[GotWoot]_Seikimatsu_Occult_Gakuin_01_[720p_H264][A598C0B4].mkv': container: Matroska
Track ID 1: subtitles (S_TEXT/ASS)
Track ID 2: video (V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC)
Track ID 3: audio (A_AAC)
Attachment ID 1: type 'application/octet-stream', size 9176636 bytes, file name 'msgothic.ttc'
Attachment ID 2: type 'application/x-truetype-font', size 56832 bytes, file name 'nrkis.ttf'
Chapters: 7 entries

Playing this file in SMplayer produces no video - the audio plays, I can seek but don't get any video. Re-muxing the file so that video is the first stream fixes this, but shouldn't be necessary. Also note that mplayer works fine.

Interesting, but it seems not to be - I'm fairly certain I didn't see any
video from this file right from trying to play it the first time. Now, I
moved the ~/.config/smplayer/file_settings folder to /tmp/ and it still
doesn't display video. After stopping the playback, there was one file in
a newly-created smplayer/file_settings folder, which I'm also attaching,
along with this "new-first" playback logs of both mplayer and smplayer.

Looking through the berlios topic and my logs, it is indeed the same problem (not sure why mplayer always launches mplayer with -vid 0 on first play). I was using medibuntu's mplayer (version 1.0~rc4~try1.dsfg1-1ubuntu1+medibuntu1) but I believe it's also in the stock ubuntu version (haven't tried - whoever's interested, get a random mkv file and re-mux it so that video isn't the first stream, then play it by running mplayer -vid 0 file.mkv ).

I've since moved to Ripp's mplayer-coreavc> https://launchpad.net/~ripps818/+archive/coreavc which is a fresh build which incorporates an upstream fix - see this bug-report> http://bugzilla.mplayerhq.hu/show_bug.cgi?id=1814

summary: - SMplayer doesn't display video in MKV files where video isn't the first
- stream (mplayer works)
+ Mplayer's -vid option broken for some demuxers
