Bug Description

LG Blu-Ray player. I think the two problems are connected. I will try to re-create and post information. Note, that there is no problem using Ubuntu 10, Fedora 14, or new release Open SUSE, but has been a problem with both Mint 9, and now Mint 10. More in a bit.

I receive the following when trying to boot into Linux Mint 10 -Gnome:

Gave up waiting for root device.
Common problems (list of items not specified here)
Alert! /dev/sdc3 doesn't exist.
Dropping to shell

Upon running Recovery, it states:
stop at ata5
Limiting sata line to 1.5mps
softreset failed
(device not ready)

Now, I have just disconnected the LG Blu-Ray player (which note, boots and runs fine in Ubuntu 10, Fedora 14, Open SUSE 11.3, and Windows 7-64bit), and the problem disappears. Mint will boot fine now, as long as the LG Blu-Ray player is NOT connected.

Interestingly, when the LG player is connected, and Mint installed, upon boot my BIOS no longer shows the Blu-Ray player, and is terribly slow to go through its motions. So there you have it. Obviously there is some kind of conflict with Mint (9 and 10) and this LG Blu-Ray player. Mint works fine with my other installed standard DVD player/writer. Note, I had the same exact problems with Mint 9 as well (hence, despite being a big fan, I've been trying other distros), and also note, that I have replaced the SATA cord and power cord, and switched around all of the SATA devices in their sockets, all to no avail. Ideas?

Added: Note, that this is an WUBI install with Windows 7-64bit. Interestingly, Linux Mint 10 will now boot, though it takes an extraordinarily long time to do so. The LG Blu-Ray player is still not recognised, nor operable. When I do a warm re-boot over to Windows 7, the Blu-Ray player continues to not be recognised in Windows 7! If I do a cold boot into Windows, all is well, and it recognizes the player. But then, if I boot into LL-10, the Blu-Ray player is no longer recognized nor operable by either operating system. Go figure. I've never had a problem with the LG player, nor with my Windows 7 installation. I've been using Linux Lime for quite some time on my other computers without problem, and I'd like to use it on my new build as well.

I got myself problems with my LG BlueRay drive in Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit.
Could it be that the working ubuntu was 32 bit and Mint was 64 bit?
