I was able to reproduce this on Natty by installing and running saytime. It looks like /dev/audio has been removed in newer Ubuntu releases (found this out by looking in /dev, and a quick search on ubuntuforums shows others are missing it as well). I'm not sure what should be used in place of /dev/audio, though.
