Bug Description

I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10. All the relevant decryption software is installed. The way Ubuntu's default DVD/media player, i.e., Totem Movie Player, plays DVDs is unwatchable. The refresh rate is about one frame per second - regardless of the size of the player window. VLC media player installed on the same system plays the same DVDs well (after initial manual set up).

Thanks for the report, it has been some time without any response or feedback in this bug report and we are wondering if this is still an issue for you with the latest release of Ubuntu the Natty Narwhal, May you please test with that version and comment back if you're still having or not the issue? Please have a look at http://www.ubuntu.com/download to know how to install that version. Thanks in advance and sorry for the late response.

I have the latest version of Ubuntu on a different computer now and there is
not the same problem with Totem. However, I do not use totem for watching
DVDs or movies as it does not work as well as other players (e.g., DVDs at
full screen appear pixellated, while VLC's rendition is free from any
visible artifacts).
cheers steve
