Bug Description

Binary package hint: modemmanager

Affects Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS (both desktop and netbook editions)

How to reproduce the crash: connect with USB a Nokia E51 Phone (PC suite mode); connect to the mobile ISP (in my case, ibox.tim.it); surf the web using Google Chrome 7.0.517.41 beta. As soon as one closes the web browser the screen freezes. No possibility of Alt+SysRq+1 or +t, no ssh connection from another computer, no Ctrl+Alt+F1. The caps lock light keeps flashing.

The same problem on both my computers Acer TravelMate 6592 and Acer AspireOne D250 (with UNE). Ubuntu 10.10 with USB boot does not seem to be affected.

The problem does not occur by using Firefox. Also, the problem does not occur by using Chrome with a wireless or ethernet connection. The crash occurs even if you are using a wireless connection, but you previously used mobile connection.

So, probably the bug is in Chrome. I didn't realize this when I first reported this bug.

Hi.

I wonder why a problem concerning a system crash has not yet been triaged.

This is probably because I could not found the right package which is responsible for the crash.

As a matter of fact, a problem today seems to contradict partially my path to reproduce the crash.

Today I was connected with UNE 10.04 and mobile broadband, with Chrome 7. The system freezed as soon as I closed Chrome, without disconnecting the mobile connection. I will try again and give more detail, but I would appreciate some suggestion.
