New Install 10.10 amd64 fails at bootup

Installing mythbuntu-10.10-desktop-amd64 clean install after mythbuntu splash goes to garbage on screen and non-responsive. A prior 10.4 installed without these problems.

Fails on both LCD montor and on 47" HDMI television, individually and separately.
