Bug Description

Version: Ubuntu 10.10 - 2.6.35-22-generic

Audio out (internal + external) does work. Microphone (internal + external) doesn't.

It seems that the microphone is attached to a non-default pin on the soundcard.

Installing the dev alsa modules did not fix the problem. Compiling the latest alsa version did not fix the problem either.

Altough this patch is for the F11 series, it might help in resolving the problem on the F12 series. Both series have exactly the same soundcard.

I am also experiencing this problem with Ubuntu 10.10 on my Sony Vaio VPCF12S1E
Both on 2.6.35-22-generic and 2.6.35-23-generic.
No mic is working. Neither the built in to the left of the camera nor line in.

How did you solve it? Please define "applying the latest dev ALSA modules" :D

Another note:
According to this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1469967
This bug might be fixed by using linux kernel 2.6.36
However I have not been able to test this.

All of the Vaio F12 series have the same soundcard, with the same pins connected.

Just follow this guide to install the daily-build ALSA modules: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/InstallingLinuxAlsaDriverModule and your microphone should work after applying the modules. You will need to unmute the mic after every update.

Using version 2.6.35-24.201012271600 of the Alsa driver module, I am able to get an external microphone (but not the internal mic) to work correctly.

I'm about to reboot and try today's (28th) patch.
