Bug Description

The suspend function does not work any more on Ubuntu 10.10 maverick. When I try to suspend the system remains active with a visible command line and a fast blinking moon symbol. The /var/log/pm-suspend.log says that suspend was successfull. I will attach the log and deliver further information on request.

Best regards!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it without more information.

Please run the following command which will attach necessary information:

apport-collect 659668

Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository with 'sudo apt-get install python-launchpadlib'. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report.

We would also like to know if you are facing this problem for the first time in 10.10 or did you have same issues in 10.04 as well (in case you were using 10.04 before installing 10.10)?

For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel related bug reports is available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelTeamBugPolicies. Thanks in advance!

I have the same problem with my Lenovo W500 after an upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10. pm-suspend hangs leaving the sleep LED blinking forever. But acpitool -s seems to suspend correctly. I worked around this for now by replacing the pm_suspend link in /usr/sbin with a script that invokes acpitool.

su
apt-get install acpitool
mv /usr/sbin/pm-suspend /usr/sbin/pm-suspend.orig
echo /usr/bin/acpitool -s > /usr/sbin/pm-suspend
chmod ugo+rx /usr/sbin/pm-suspend

@Greg: Thank you for your comments and helping make Ubuntu better. However, since you have a reported using different hardware, we suggest you report a separate bug for your problem preferably by doing the following in the terminal:

ubuntu-bug -p linux

Nitesh, I can open a new bug if you would like. But I believe that the Lenovo T500 and W500 are identical hardware, and my suspend failure is identical to this bug.

If you are sure that its identical hardware, then no need to file a
separate bug. Since the model numbers were different, I believed that
there will be slight difference in specifications.

Ok, I have installed the Kernel version v2.6.35.4-maveric from mainline (linux-image-2.6.35-02063504-generic to be specific). The problem still exists.

BTW: The workaround by Greg works for me.

This bug is an upstream one and it would be quite helpful if somebody experiencing it could send the bug the to the people writing the software. You can learn more about how to do this for various upstreams at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream. Thanks in advance!

I'm having the same problem with a Lenovo T500 under Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit (and suspend worked fine under 10.04). Greg's trick did not work for me. I have filed my own bug (#727256).
