Bug Description

Steps te reproduce:
  Open gaim main window.
  Drag gaim window to the bottom of your screen
  Click the status-button to change the status

Suggested priorty: low
Although it is the no. 1 bug that makes Gaim feel beta, it's just a visual glitch.

Possible cause:
  Th popup-list is moved upwards when the button is to low for the popup-list to show beneath. Yet the contents of the popup-list is always aligned at the same place: the first item is aligned on top of the button.

What we could consider a fix:
  1. Make the popuplist either complete above or below the button based on the screen position.
  2. Make the contents position itself relatively to the popup-list.

I've just noticed the same behaviour in the edgy installation program (selecting the partitions and their mount points).

I guess this is just default policy of some GTK widget. Weird.
This makes the bug slightly debatable. Although this default behavior is still ugly and illogical.

You notice it in its extreme in Gaim because the status-button is at the bottom and the default status is available (the first option of the list).

Thanks for your bug. That's a known GTK issue, upstream consider it as fixed with the scrolling arrow on the top of the menu: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=129463. Marking the distribution task as fixed too. Feel free to argue upstream if you disagree, that's the right place to discuss GTK behaviour

It seems its an optional behavior which can be controlled within the theme.

The bugzilla page about this bug is actually very interesting: all users say its a bug, all develops say its a feature.

Perhaps this can be fixed this in the human-theme?
There is a comment (no. 11) on the bugzilla page about this:

style "default-style"
{
  GtkComboBox::appears-as-list = 1
}

If it is this easy to fix I would recommend to do so. There are just too many cases where it looks and feels unpolished/buggy and one of them is in Gaim.

After getting all possible latest updates today (March 4/2008) this issue still exists. I am including a screen capture.
