Hi,
when you say "a laucher that contains file system folders is used", what do
you mean exactly ?
is it a launcher with a special command ?
or is it the "Folders" applet ?
when exactly does it crash ?
could you please run
"cairo-dock -l debug" and reproduce the crash and attach here the outputs ?
Thanks !

Hey,

Yes, it is the folders applet.
When I clicked on the folders applet cairo-dock it will crash.
I was unable to reproduce the crash by unchecking the Userspace File System
box in compiz as it will not remain checked, so I completely removed the
cairodock configuration files, reinstalled cairo-dock and was able to
reproduce the bug by clicking on the present nuatilus applet (I had nautilus
open at the time). This is in the debug file. I then rechecked the UFS box
in compiz (which does not stay checked) and was this time unable to
eliminate this bug. I have also reproduced this bug using a folders applet.

let me know what else I can do

Thank you so much.

thanks for the details, do you have anything else special ?
like being in 64 bits, having dual-screen, etc ?
did you try your theme on another machine which has another type of graphic
card ?
also, could you please try with the default theme ? (mv
~/.config/cairo-dock/current_theme ~/.config/cairo-dock/current_theme.bak,
and then restart the dock)
Thanks !

Hi.

This happens with all sub-dock variations. I have completely removed the
packages a few times and their configuration files and tried the
defaults. I have another machine I can try this on, although it is a bit
risky as it is a back-up drive. If I can avoid it, I will. Cairo-dock
worked like gangbusters on Lynx, but had similar initial issues on
Karmic that were directly related to the cairo-dock plug-ins. Sometimes
the sub-docks work correctly say two or three times and the go fowl. The
weather applet constantly does not work period and causes an immediate
crash. I have removed all sub-dock related launchers and everything
works fine. I have tried adding just one sub-dock launcher and the crash
will occur. Also, when the crash occures it sends me to the cairo-dock
"maintenance mode" interface about 50% of the time and restarts or shuts
down completely the rest of the time.

Am I the only one with this particular issue?

I had a permissions issue in my "home" folder that I had to correct
after this problem occurred, but I do not think they were directly
related. All of my folders were set to root permissions, but have been
restored to user permissions. Could this have any bearing on the issue.
All other programs, minus a few upgrade bugs, are working fine.

Thanks.

thanks for the details.
so no 64bits, no dual-screen, or anything that could be special ?
could you please try with the default theme (mv
~/.config/cairo-dock/current_theme ~/.config/cairo-dock/current_theme.bak

I'm thinking there is some problem in Maverick, since I can run the dock on
2 machines with opengl (nVidia and Intel graphic cards, 32bits), but it's
hard to be sure.

Nothing special on my end. Promise.

I am not sure that the default is available here.

This is my output from the terminal -
andy@andy-laptop:~$ mv
mv: missing file operand
Try `mv --help' for more information.
andy@andy-laptop:~$ ~/.config/cairo-dock/current_theme
~/.config/cairo-dock/current_theme.bak
bash: /home/andy/.config/cairo-dock/current_theme: is a directory
andy@andy-laptop:~$

I have completley removed the .config/cairo-dock file from the home
directory and the usr/share/cairo-dock file and reinstalled cairo-dock
with the same results. Is that sufficiant or is there something else I
can do? It definitely is the default dock and is still crashing opengl.

The latest Maverick update, which included an a OpenGL-GTK update has
corrected the sub-dock issue (so far). If you need information about
this update or further test, let me know (and know how!), I will be
happy to help. Thank you so much.

Hi, thanks for the feedback !
so as I guessed, this is an issue in the distrib, no in the dock itself (I
thought in the drivers, but it seems to be at a higher level)
good news then, and I'm sure I won't update to Maverick until it's fixed ^_^
If you notice any improvements, thanks to report them.

The Dock itself is now buggy and slow to load. It actually has crashed a
couple of times in what appears to be pre-cache at start-up. It works
great if it get past this stage, with improvements in speed, but this
may be the applications themselves. All in all, there have been no
killer bugs so far in the distribution, which I must say (with devs), in
the past has not been the case. I will keep working with it, and let you
know if there is anything worth noting in the future.

the OpenGL backend of the dock needs perfect drivers, because it uses both
composite and opengl at the same time (which no other program does). So I
wouldn't be surprised if the Intel drivers in Maverick were buggy (it
happened with the ATI drivers in Lucid). I would prefer it's a bug on our
side (because then we could fix it) but unfortunately I'm unable to
reproduce it :-/
So I appreciate your feedbacks, and if you think you have a way to reproduce
it (like activating an applet makes the dock slow), please tell me :-)

Just a follow up, no need to reply. Everything seems to be working great
now as far as Cairo-Dock is concerned. I have added and removed just
about everything I can think of and it is running as smooth as glass.
Thanks for a truly awesome product. Once again, if you need for me to
try anything, please, just let me know.
