If I understand this bug report and its dupes, the gpu appears to hang but the kernel is able to reset it, so it triggers the gpu hang capture tool, but doesn't actually leave the system in a hung state.

When 10.10 was released, the automatic hang capture tool was turned off, which explains why this stopped happening after that.

For natty, we've updated to a newer kernel, which I presume includes a fix for whatever was triggering the capture tool to be called.

Has anyone seen this bug on arrandale with natty?

I'm still seeing oddball hangs of the X server which do not hang the
system. However, I'm not sure how to capture the situation since nothing
goes to the logs. I just get messages about the GPU in the tty I'm using to
shut the box down. This differs from the bug I wrote up (644680), but I've
not found a way to recreate and provide you guys any useful data. If you
have any suggestions, I'm all ears.

Thanks,
Jason
