Hi Fabio...

Not very helpful as the problem is no WiFi, so cannot connect to Launchpad.

Will have to find a cable and connect the laptop up, then will try again....

Further info...

I am running Ubuntu 10.04 with the driver downloaded from Realtek with no
problem.

Distributions with the Realtek 8192 WiFi driver actually in the kernel do not
seem to work.

As an example Mandriva 2010.1 now includes the Realtek 8192 driver in the
kernel, when I start the live distro it does not find the wifi, but if I go to
the network config and enter the setup I can start the WiFi.

I then install mandriva, it installs, finds updates etc, but next time I boot
the WiFi does not work.

I am using my WiFi in mode B with no encryption it is totally open apart from
barring some users by mac code.

It does seem a problem in the kernel WiFi code?

Download driver from here http://www.dirk-hoeschen.de/temp/rtl819Xe.tar.gz

http://www.dirk-hoeschen.de/temp/rtl819Xe.tar.gz

On Netbook Remix it should download into your Download folder. Go to your Download folder and Extract the file. Click on it, it will open then click Extract.

Open the Terminal and Change Directory to Extracted File by typing this into the Terminal

cd Downloads/rtl819Xe

Next in the Terminal type

sudo su

./install.sh

Ignore any error messages it will say kernel mismatched 5 times.

Your wifi driver on the N130 should now work. The above was adapted from this thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1329254&page=2

Hope this helps. It worked first time on my N130.

Helen
RE my instructions above if the wifi driver does not load at start up open up the Terminal and type the following:

sudo gedit /etc/modules

Type in your password

A text file with appear add the following line:

r8192_pci

and SAVED IT.

Reboot and your wifi will start or alternatively to save rebooting in the Terminal type:

sudo modprobe r8192_pci

This command simply restarts your wifi and Text file where you added the line r8192_pci (as the instructions above) restarts wifi every time you reboot

I have tried this myself.

Any queries leave a post or PM me and I will try to help.

Helen

Download full text (4.8 KiB)

It Might work, but it should not be necessary, as Mandriva and PCLinuxOS
work fine out of the box, PCLinuxOS works better than Mandriva straight
out of the box with no problem at all.

Ken Williams, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
