Bug Description

i am using an lenovo s10-3 netbook (which has pretty much a stock netbook configuration), which i updated from lucid to maverick (i386). The last 2.6.35 kernel which is working, is 2.6.35.3-maverick (2.6.35-02063503-generic) from the mainline ppa. when i boot 2.6.35-22-generic (latest maverick kernel as of this writing) or 2.6.35.4 from mainline ppa i get stuck with a black screen and a blinking prompt. i did download the daily maverick livecd and there was the same behaviour when trying to boot from it. when i boot without "quiet splash" from the livecd i can see it stalls after the message "[drm] initialized drm 1.1.0 20060810". nomodeset does not seem to help either. i tried the lates 2.6.36rc kernels from the mainline ppa for maverick, but it was the same with those kernels.

Please run 'apport-collect 643045' on your machine, as this will collect the right info our kernel team needs to diagnose the problem. Thanks, Robbie.

@robbie: i don't know if that worked, there were some errors about not running an ubuntu kernel (which i cannot obviously).

Hi Magnus,

This sounds quite similar to bug 634702 (at least the same netbook model it seems). It's currently assigned to one of our Ubuntu kernel devs. I've posted a comment in that bug noting you'd noticed the regression between v2.6.35.3 and v2.6.35.4. To possibly help with the debugging, I can build you some bisect test kernels to try to narrow down the exact patch which has introduced this regression. If you can, please test the following and let me know your results. We can then proceed from there. Thanks in advance:

Thanks Magnus. I've built a new test kernel and placed it at the same location, please test and let me know your results:

Hi,

I have similar report with the same netbook (Lenovo ideapad S10-3) (bug 634702)

After appending "intel_idle.max_cstate=0" and system boot.

Can you try to append to kernel parameter and try to boot again.

appending "intel_idle.max_cstate=0" as kernel parameter to 2.6.35-22-generic *does* make the machine boot.

This indeed now appears to be the same issue that Ike was working on in bug 634702 . I'm therefore marking this bug as a duplicate of bug 634702 just so there's one master tracking bug and it also makes it easier for all parties to communicate rather than having to span across multiple bugs. Please continue to use bug 634702 for all future correspondence. Thanks.

This bug is also related to the following since it also affects the s10-3c model. Except it also affects the keyboard in that model.
