Also, if you are using an Nvidia card with Ubuntu 10.10, I just saw this article. Not sure if it's related:

I'm using an Intel GMA 4500MHD on a Lenovo SL510 notebook.
I tried to remove "Subpixel Smoothing (LCD)" but nothing changes.

In attachment a video of the problem.

Could you try the last version who is in the trunk.
In the folder of your choice, type this command in a console for having this is :
bzr branch lp:openshot
This is having for effect to create a folder that you go in and after you go to the folder call openshot. Here there is a file call openshot.py that you run typing this always in a console :
python openshot.py
And say us if it is always the same thing.
Thanks.

Hi, with the version retrieved via bzr the timeline is working fine!

One new problem, at startup: cannot found frei0r library.

THANKS!

Think to use the Medibuntu FFmpeg Version if you want to work with the AVCHD format.
Thanks

"Won't Fix" why? Because in the new version it's fixed?

And why the older version doesn't notify the frei0r library lack?

Yes and she will come soon, very soon.
That 's an error in the packaging. And it has been modified in the code for no more having this problem.

Hi, I'm having exactly the problem displayed in myxroby's video.
However, I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 RC and OpenShot 1.2.2. Using the bzr version via python does not fix it. Tried changing to metacity and compiz without any effect.
The videos do not only disappear when you drag them into the timeline and reappear when you use zoom buttons, you even cannot drag a video to the second or third timeline... they always stick in the first track.
This way, OpenShot is useless for me, cause you can't do any transitions or include extra audio tracks.
Please fix this problem. OpenShot is a really good editor and now that it's bundled in Ubuntu it should work. Thanks.

Just wanted to add that I also tried using ATI fglrx instead of the radeon driver but that didn't have any effect, too.
Please fix this. I cannot be the only one having this problem (!?), I love ubuntu and I don't want to install Windows and use movie maker.
Thanks, ubeagle.

ubeagle,
Can you try running OpenShot from the terminal:
$ openshot

See if any errors appear in the terminal window. Also, are you using multiple monitors or just a single monitor? Not sure if that would cause the clips to snap to the wrong position... Hmmm...

Also, just out of curiosity, you might try installing Ubuntu 10.10 in VirtualBox, and see if OpenShot works there.

Hi Jonathan,

sorry, I'm a bit late, but I had to learn for an exam (successfully ;-)).

I don't have the time right now to install it in VirtualBox, but starting OpenShot via console brings no error messages when the videos disappear. I'm using a single monitor.

However, while testing I noticed that it has something to do with my old project:
If I start a new OpenShot session I can't reproduce the error at all when creating a new project - even after importing the same videos as I have in my old project. If I load the old project, however, I get the error again (without error messages).
Also, If I load a new project again after loading the old project the videos still disappear when dragging them onto the track.

Does this mean the error is gone?... I don't know... but I only get the error now after having loaded my old project in OpenShot.

I'm still using my Ubuntu 10.10 RC installation, but updated with all the current packages.
