Bug Description

Binary package hint: initramfs-tools

This was upgrade from fresh installation of 10.04 to 10.10. (Previous same failure required fresh install to recover from unbootable system.) Install was from read-only thumb drive - which works well.

The box seems broken either fix by
sudo apt-get --reinstall install initramfs-tools

or reinstall, in any case back up your data.

Changed in initramfs-tools (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid
