For me it's:

Added my Google/Gtalk account thru the wizard, when finished empathy supposedly must connect to the account.
Error message apeared, empathy didn't close but neither can login to Gtalk account.
When I try to activate from menu it reads "network error".
Adding it as Jabber works.

My observations match with Eduardo's findings too(network error).

I was able to make it activate from the menu with a little bit of playing. I think I ticked "Use old SSL".

Thanks for the comments, I have tried many times to connect after each update without any success. This is not due to the update manager running in background, but deeper problem than this.

I will try Eduardo's and Alex's "solutions".

I am aware that the valgrind log will help, but had trouble setting this up, will try again tonight.

Just to say that I have tried to add the gmail account as a jabber account, and it works flawlessly.

GoogleTalk accounts work fine if they are set-up as GoogleTalk accounts, no need to set them up as Jabber. When setting them up in the `Server` field input "talk.google.com" without quotes. Also tick "Encryption Required (TLS/SSL) and it will work.

Same problem here with Maverick Desktop and Netbook editions. I'll wait for the fix as I don't want to use a workaround. Obviously, this should work by default.

Comment #13 works for me. empathy-accounts still crashes, but it's possible to enable the account afterwards.
