Bug Description

Binary package hint: cairo-dock

When using 2.2.0-0rc1, the OpenGl tag (cairo-dock -o) causes it to move at a crawl, and become very jerky, when hiding or unhiding the dock. This has not been a problem in 10.04, where it worked flawlessly. Intel chips are now very well supported by Cairo-dock (or were, previously). I'm using an Asus eeepc 901, with an Intel Atom board.

Have reverted to using cairo-dock without opengl (works fine, but not as cool). This is launched by using cairo-dock -c

Hi,
it seems you are using Metacity without composite. that's not a problem, but
I have a netbook with an Intel graphic chip, and I can use the dock with
opengl and composite (it's very smooth).
if you're using fake transparency, could you try without ? also could you
try with composite activated ?
Thanks.

does it only happen whrn the dock is hiding/unhiding ?
nothing special when you just move the mouse inside the dock and triggers
the animations ?
did you try to remove the animations (maybe you set up too much animations,
the graphic card of a netbook is not that powerful) ?

Only when hiding, unhiding. Didn't try to remove any animations, as
it's the exact same setup (literally, copied the config file) as in
10.04, and it worked beautifully.

Hi,

The hidding methods have been rewritten. It works much better than before with most graphic cards and this is the first bug report about that I think. So I think it's maybe a problem with your drivers (xorg/mesa)...

@ Fabounet: is it possible to add an option in order to use the libcairo only for the hidding method?

There isn't enough information provided to do any analysis on this bug. "very slow" is a vague symptom, there needs to be something more specific to go on.

Btw, the mesa devs do not look at the ubuntu bug tracker, so if you want their attention you need to post to their bug tracker.

Great if it's been fixed. I actually reverted back to 10.04, as I'm
needing my netbook in a production environment. Interestingly enough
though, I've noticed with the recent version of Cairo-dock from the
cairo-dock team PPA that opengl no longer works in 10.04. That would
point to incompatibility within cairo-dock, rather than Ubuntu. Works
fine without opengl though, so I've been using that. Great updates in
the latest version of cairo-dock, actually. Looking forward to updating
to 10.10 if opengl's working again. Cheers.
