Bug Description

Ok I have notice you that newest version still have this bug I working on windows Xp sp3 and when I'll try to open file on normal view then program stops and get runtime error. As I see that going only on svg files above 7mb ofcourse I can open file on sketch then evrything works fine. Maybe it's cause I used several color in hair layers or too much nodes I dont get this. I work on 2x2,4 core duo and 2gb ram + 4 virtual so hardware isnt a problem (maybe).
Best Regard's

No.

The attached file opens in Inkscape 0.48 and 0.48+devel r9745 on Mac OS 10.5.8 without crash (MBP, 2.4 GHz Intel C2D, 2GB RAM), but rendering the initial view is so slow (layer 324), that the only way to look at the contents is in outline view mode. I gave up getting the normal view ('View > Display > No filters') because it nearly freezes the whole system (memory paging), let alone in 'Normal' display mode.

The performance degradation doesn't seem related primarily to filter effects (though there are blurs involved) - afaict it is the number of paths with many nodes, closely packed and overlapping, in layer 324 (roughly: 100 paths x 1290 nodes = 129'000 nodes).

Why don't you make better use of bezier paths (pen tool) for the shape you seem to have used repeatedly to draw the hair -- by adjusting the node handles of few (smooth) nodes to create a curved, stroked path instead of hundreds of nearby cusp nodes outlining each strand of hair (resulting from a 'stroke' drawn with the calligraphy tool most likely)?

The console messages Inkscape outputs when it crashes could provide further details about the underlying cause of the crash. Could you please try to trap the exit messages with Inkscapec.exe, as described at <http://kaioa.com/node/63>?

That weird cause file dosent crash with console aha now its crash you mean post this?

The messages shown in the screenshot are just warnings (they also happen when Inkscape doesn't crash on opening the file):

** (inkscape-bin:24995): WARNING **: Inkscape only supports edgeMode="none" (and a filter uses a different one)!

Are there no further messages after these?

Are these messages really from Inkscape 0.48 or did you use 0.47 for the tests? (same error messages had been reported in bug #221712, which has been fixed in 0.48 by updating the pango and cairo libraries used by Inkscape).

Yes, this is Inkscape 0.48.0-1 (A minor build/packaging issue: the version number was not updated in some files for win32-builds, it will be fixed in the next point release -- see bug #628846 or details.)

No, please don't - Inkscape 0.48 already included newer libraries.
