Bug Description

Once, only, I have seen a right-click menu for a Unity launcher icon that let me "Keep item in launcher" (or similar) - i.e. to pin that item. However, I cannot seem to repeat this for any other icon. The one item I successfully pinned no longer displays this menu when I right-click it.

To duplicate:
1. Log in.
2. Press Ctrl+Alt+T to launch a gnome-terminal instance. Or, start another application.
3. Right-click & hold on the icon for the newly-launched application in the Unity sidebar.

Expected: a menu appears with the "Keep item in launcher" option.
Observed: a box with the application title appears. The box grows slightly larger after the mouse button is held down for about one second.

Update: even though it is not displayed, if I click on the space under the application title where "Keep in launcher" WOULD appear, the item is pinned to the launcher.

No, I separately reported bug #629917, which was marked considered a duplicate of bug #617339.

For this bug, I see no quicklist items whatsoever.

even if you dont see the 'keep in launcher' entry after right clicking on a
tile its there. if you get your mouse a little below the apps label and
click that app is pinned. so the problem really is bug 629917

Can you post a screenshot of what appears when you right click on a launcher icon? use gnome-screenshot -d 4 from the command line.
