xmms leaks memory when playing mp3 from stream

Binary package hint: xmms

If I leave xmms playing mp3 from a stream for several hours (+10 hours), it may get to consume more than 1GB of memory.

Any idea how can I triage this?

You could try valgrind.

valgrind --time-stamp=yes --log-file=valgrind-xmms xmms

It doesn't seem that it is leaking memory. But still it consumes greater amounts of memory as time goes by. Any other idea?

I can confirm the bug, both for edgy and for feisty. In a matter of hours, memory usage was 66% out of 1Gb ram (seen in "top"), and the HDD worked pretty heavy on swap partition.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately xmms was removed since Ubuntu 8.04 "Hardy Heron" because it was unmaintained. So we will not fix your bug. You can use audacious instead. It is an fork of xmms and is actively developed.
