Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Select Tools/Options then choose Paths. Double click on Templates. Choose Add.

Navigate to the path with your templates, and click OK. Result is a massage box that says "The path <path to templates> already exists". (It should exist - that is the point of selecting it!)

Counterexample, manually enter a path that does not exist. This is reported as an error, which is the correct behaviour.

Result: the user cannot change the template path from the default.

Which version are you using? I can't confirm this neither on dapper nor on edgy.

OpenOffice.org 2.0.4rc2-1ubuntu6 of up-to-date Edgy Knot 3 updated as of today 64-bit.

Same result using both OOo and Gnome dialogues.

Hi

This is a bit of a "bump", but the bug is still there in rc3.

IMO, OO is one of the most important apps in Ubuntu, and something like this just wipes away confidence. However, I think that it may be a 64-bit problem, so can be solved (for now) by not using the *very* experimental 64-bit OOo.

There are slightly similar bugs reported by those experimenting with 64-bit OOo builds on Gentoo, so the problem is probably upstream.

It would be better to package a working 32-bit OOo with 64-bit 6.10 than a broken 64-bit version. The former would make for a useful install; the latter would confirm (to some) that Ubuntu does not rate AMD-64 as a serious install target.

From Gentoo to SUSE, 64-bit users are given working systems using a mix of 64-bit and 32-bit apps, and that is fine. There is no point in being silly about it. 64-bit Firefox is silly because it cannot use Flash nor RealPlayer plugins. 64-bit OOo is silly if it does not work!

This bug is still present in a completely fresh install of the release candidate (amd64).

This bug can be repeated 100% by re-partitioning one's hard disc, installing Fedora Core 6, then repeating the steps set forth in the OP.

This probably confirms the problem as being upstream :-)

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Since you reported your bug a newer version of the OpenOffice.org package is available. Could you please retest with the latest version and let us know if this is still an issue? Thanks in advance.

Confirmed on openoffice.org 1:2.4.0~rc2-1ubuntu3, don't have upstream installed on my amd64 box so will have to verify that part later.

I had Rene test the upstream 64bit build and it worked there so this is a ooo-build issue, emailed the go-oo mailing list about the issue.
