Bug Description

With the dock having a reserved space and starting with Gnome session, sometimes, after boot, when a window is maximized and the mouse cursor is put on an icon, the upper part of the zoomed icon goes behind the window. After restarting the dock, this behavior is corrected. I even added "class=Cairo-dock" to "CCSM > Window Rules > Above" to no avail.

I have no clue to why the above behavior happens only sometimes after boot. My graphic card is GeForce 9500 GT with nvidia-kernel-dkms 195.36.24-4 on Debian Squeeze.

Hi,
thanks for the report.
Launching the dock with a delay on startup would probably solve the problem.
Maybe the dock is launched before the WM.
I'll try to see if I can do something about it.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Cairo-Dock is started 6 sec after Compiz here. I'll increase this delay and see what will happen.

BTW, another strange thing: sometimes after resuming from hibernation, the dock uses 100% of CPU time (3-4 times in this month). When I quit the dock with its menu, the CPU usage gets normal but I can't even log out of GNOME! I don't know if this behavior is new because I didn't use hibernation before. Should I make another bug report for this?

there are a lot of problems with hibernation on Linux :-/
maybe if you start the dock with ddd, you could interrupt it when it's using
100% CPU, and see if it's stuck somewhere ?

Hi,

I'm afraid the problem with icons going behind windows (even when those windows aren't maximized) isn't related to start-up order because it sometimes happens at the middle of a session. It's too sporadic for its cause to be traced.

The 100% CPU usage may not be caused by Cairo-Dock but by some application residing in its systray.

does the dock still reserve its space on the screen ?
it behaves as if it was in a "keep below" state ?
next time it happens, could you please try to switch to Metacity (metacity
--replace&), and see if the problem continues ?
then switch back to compiz (compiz --replace&), and see if the problem comes
back ?
thanks for your help !

Hi,

Sorry for the long delay.

Yes, it does

In fact, a few minutes ago, it happened again. Having your suggestion in mind, I restarted Compiz through Compiz Fusion Icon and then, the behavior of Cairo-Dock's icons became normal again.

ok thanks !
so we can assume it's probably a bug in Compiz.
I think it would worth reporting it to the devs.
