Bug Description

Binary package hint: hal

The name of the volumes you can see in Computer (Floppy Drive, CD-RW Drive and so on) appears untranslated in my Spanish desktop.

However, the translations is fully completed in Rosetta:

https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/edgy/+source/hal/+pots/hal/es/+translate

And the translations are into the .mo file. See, for example:

ricardo@yuggoth:~ $ strings -eS /usr/share/locale-langpack/es/LC_MESSAGES/hal.mo |grep Floppy
External Floppy Drive
Floppy Drive
ricardo@yuggoth:~ $ strings -eS /usr/share/locale-langpack/es/LC_MESSAGES/hal.mo |grep Disquetera
Disquetera externa
Disquetera

Mmmm... I don't know if the problem is exactly in the hal package. If I do:

ricardo@yuggoth:~ $ grep "DVD±R" /usr/share/locale-langpack/es/LC_MESSAGES/*.mo
Binary file /usr/share/locale-langpack/es/LC_MESSAGES/gnome-vfs-2.0.mo matches
ricardo@yuggoth:~ $

Therefore, the gnome-vfs-2.0.mo file contains the volume & media labels, like "DVD+R", "DVD-RAM", "Floppy", "Drive", and so on. This gnome-vfs-2.0.mo file contains all the translations, so I don't know where could be the problem.

Besides that, I don't know what is the Rosetta's template corresponding to gnome-vfs-2.0.mo file. I tried to go to:

https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/edgy/+source/gnome-vfs-2.0

but Launchpad says "Page not found".

This is a very annoying bug for a Spanish user. Dapper, Breezy and so doesn't have it.

This seems to be a bug in gnome-vfs2 itself then.

The problem has been reintroduced in Hardy, but now there are more untranslated strings:

Computer -> Equipo
Filesystem -> Sistema de archivos
%s Media -> Soporte %s
... and all of the original bugreport.

All this strings are translated into Spanish for Hardy in Launchpad:

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/hardy/+source/hal/+pots/hal/es/+translate

I attach an screenshot to illustrate the problem.

Hardy is using gvfs and not gnome-vfs, open new bugs when you have a new issue rather than reopen ones closed for years
