Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

I have a Dell e6410 laptop (display resolution is 1440x900) plugged on a docking station and connected to an external 22" monitor (whose resolution is 1680x1050). I have a problem using the external monitor:

Ideally I would like to use only the external monitor but if I switch off the laptop display in "monitor preferences", the external monitor goes into power saving mode, the laptop display goes black and there's nothing I can do but restart the laptop.

I believe this may be related to bug 578673 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/578673).

I have very similar problems. Ended up downgrading to the VESA driver, but now I do not have external monitor support.

Hi Michel,
I actually followed the instructions proposed in 578673 in order to fix the resume problem.
Are you saying that this other problem is due to this?
Or, did you have the external monitor problem even without fixing bug 578673?

thanks

After getting the patch that was committed as part of bug 578673 and rolling back my changes to use the VESA driver I get full support for dual monitors. Everything seems to be working correct with the monitor.

My only problem now is that I can not suspend. It seems to succeed in everything but shutting down the hardware at the end.

In any case, the fix seems to fix the dual monitor problem.

hm, no more feedback. Resolving as a dupe to 578673 seems to be the best option. Invalid would have been the other possibility.
