Selected language for Wubi install not supported

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Doing a brand new install of Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS from CD rom, I selected language "Afrikaans" from the Wubi screen.
I rebooted when prompted.

First thing I see is a window with title: "Installeer stelsel" although the message text (forget what it was) was in English.

Then I get a new window titled "Install" with a language selection list box on the left (underneath "Step 1 of 7") and the following: "Welcome. Ready to install? Once you answer a few questions the contents of the live CD can be installed on this computer so you can run Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS at full speed without the CD.
Answering the questions should only take a few minutes."

There is no entry for "Afrikaans" in the list box, so I click on "English" and "Forward" and installation proceeds as normal for Wubi i.e. no more user input.

Installation is successful.

Note - reinstalling with French as the selected language works normally (Ubiquity presents all screens in French). So I guess the issue is that there is a mismatch of languages offered by Wubi and those supported by Ubiquity.

Thank you for reporting this error. Could you test this in Ubuntu 10.10? This would help us resolve this issue.

I am adding the translation team to this report, since we do have another release of Ubuntu 10.04.2 coming. Perhaps this can be fixed for that release.

It might be that Afrikaans is not supported in the installer and can only be chosen after the installation by using System > Administration > Language Support

I've assigned the bug to the Afrikaans translation team to comment on it, but it might be that the installer (debian-installer) needs to be translated first, as I see that upstream does not have an Afrikaans translation:

I think this bug is more to do with the fact that Wubi offers languages that aren't supported by Ubiquity - not so much that Afrikaans is not supported (I just picked the first one on the list). It may be that the fix is to provide an Afrikaans translation... but there might be other mismatches.

I'll try and go through the list when I have time and see if there are any other mismatches.

I did a comparison of the po directory from bazaar. The following are included with WUBI but not in Ubiquity:
af.po, as.po, br.po, crh.po, csb.po, various flavours of english (en_AU/CA/GB), fa.po, fy.po, is.po, jv.po, kab.po, kn.po, mo.po, ms.po, mt.po, nb.po, nn.po, te.po, tw.po, ur.po, uz.po, wae.po, zh_HK.po

There are some in Ubiquity that are not in WUBI as well.

Anyway - based on that it would be no small task to get the two in synch.

Thanks for getting this additional information together. At least it is now visible that there is a big difference when using wubi instead of the standard installer. Since this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work, I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here. Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!
