Bug Description

Binary package hint: tomboy

The current latest version of tomboy works in every respect other than displaying a tray/notifier icon. Hitting F12 / etc all bring up the correct displays..

If you run tomboy from a shell you'll see it starts up fine with no discernible errors.

Cannot reproduce on current edgy. I run "tomboy" in a terminal and it shows.

I think the other person I added into the subscribers list for this ticket - Bryan Forbes - is also seeing this happen on his system.

As Matthias Urlichs said "not visible" here. The same thing is happening with me, even after following instructions to fix it at the ubuntu forums

ENV: Edgy / Tomboy 0.4.1-0ubuntu3

I also used Tomboy (0.3.5-1ubuntu3) throughout my dapper experience, and found this issue problematic at first. I needed my Tomboy!

My guess is that this is not a bug, but the intended behavior. Now, that I am used to it, I don't mind it.

The Panel applet seems to be intended to replace the "tray/notifier icon". The applet in my panel seems to be in a running state
mono /usr/lib/tomboy/Tomboy.exe --panel-applet --oaf-activate-iid=OAFIID:TomboyApplet

My theory seems to be supported by the image in the Edgy Eft/Beta wiki page
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/EdgyEft/Beta#head-e5bb3ad65cac0cba8ea382569755ff7b71041bb1

When I first run tomboy from Deskbar it gave me a scary message about 0 of 0 notes migrated. It was an awkward upgrade experience for me, but Tomboy was only a universe package in Dapper.

Thanks for the hint, when running the command in the style you showed I got this error from bonobo:

jkuhnert@babushka:~/projects/tapestry/tapestry-framework/src/js$ mono /usr/lib/tomboy/Tomboy.exe --panel-applet --oaf-activate-iid=OAFIID:TomboyApplet

Bonobo-Activation-ERROR **: This process has not registered the required OAFIID your source code should register 'OAFIID:TomboyApplet'. If your code is performing delayed registration and this message is trapped in error, see bonobo_activation_idle_reg_check_set.
