Evolution thinks it's offline with WICD

Binary package hint: evolution

I use WICD rather than NetworkManager. Evolution starts in offline mode although I am connected. Work online, Send/Receive, and Download Messages for offline use are all greyed-out. If I connect with Network Manager, Evolution functions properly.

Ubuntu ships by default NetworkManager not WICD, the bug should be filed upstream, closing this tasks as won't fix.

Not sure how to file "upstream," but all my other network services work.

Completely uninstall Network Manager (through System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager). Find Network Manager and mark for complete removal. Worked for me: your mileage may vary.

That's not the best approach (though it may work).

I suggest adding a master override in Evolution to always assume network is up and not just checking with Network Manager.
