Bug Description

I have no sound when using my audio out mini-jack to HiFi. This setup works fine in That Other Operating System (TOOS), notably the X-ray Papa version.

There was sound from my built-in speakers initially, but that disappeared after either a System Test or a failed attempt at running the line
apport-collect -p alsa-driver 367149
The system said something about me not being the user who submitted the problem. Now there is absolutely no sound, and I'm not sure if the problem wasn't maybe caused by the Test itself?

One thing I noticed, there is a red light shining inside the jack output plug while I'm using TOOS, which is dead when in Ubuntu.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I really want to install Ubuntu and stay away from TOOS if possible.

Greetings
Adriaan de Beer

Hi Adriaan, can you please open a terminal and run this command:
apport-collect 611027

Apport-collect collects more information from the system that runs it and uploads them here, so the number must match the number of this bug (which is 611027). To avoid confusion, apport-collect only allows the original reporter to do so.

Changed in alsa-driver (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete

Hi
I've given Launchpad "change anything" privileges, but it seems not to
recognize that, and gives me an Error 500 message: Internal Server Error,
You have to allow 'change anything' privileges.

Adriaan, you seem to be running an old release of Ubuntu, could you please check if it works on a Maverick Live-CD? Thanks!

This problem also occured with a 10.04 release, run from CD. I did not fully install yet, because the moment my Ubuntu works, I'll wipe 'that other OS' from my laptop and start afresh with an Ubuntu only laptop.

Greetings and good luck!

Okay. Since you weren't able to send a complete apport-collect, there's not much I can do at this point, unfortunately.

Hi David
The latest release CD I could find was 10.04, same problem there. Do you
want me to run apport-collect from that system also?

Greetings
Adriaan

Adriaan, thanks for trying out 10.04. Can you please run the http://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/AlsaInfo instead of apport-collect (from 10.04), that might work better if you're having trouble with apport-collect?

Hi! I'm also affected by this bug. I have the output file of the AlsaInfo script mentioned above. Can I post the whole contents of the log file here or should I email it personally to somebody?

Big thanks!

@Francis, ensure you have the same hardware as the original poster. If you have, attach the alsa-info to this bug (click on the "add attachment or patch" button). If you don't, please file a separate bug. Thanks!
