WinXP: "Save" or "Save As" locks up entire program, requiring force-quit

Choosing "Save" or "Save As" locks up Inkscape in builds 9596 and 9640 (July 2010). System is WinXP SP2; I am using the builds linked to from the main Inkscape download page (the link provided is to http://inkscape.modevia.com/win32/?M=D ). Notably, the program window loses focus when I click Save or Save As, as if a dialog box is now active, but none is visible. The bug appears to occur with modified or blank documents (except for clicking Save on an unmodified blank document, which does nothing).
