Contacts list doesn't show up on jabber room

When I join the jabber room of my society, even though "display list contacts' is selected nothing appears along the conversation window.

In this picture, the 'conversation' menu has been selected and you can notice that 'display user contact list' has been ticked. However, nothing appears on the right side of this jabber room :( Did I miss something ?

I can see the expander. please move your cursor to the right side and expand
the side pane.. it somehow got contracted
