Automount of encrypted medium at login doesn't work

Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

Hello, there,

I have set up an encrypted usb memory stick using luks containing an ext3 filesystem - and some magic allows my ubuntu system to automatically mount it when I plug it in after asking me for the passphrase. Everything works like magic, but if the USB stick is already plugged in at boot it will not be automatically mounted when I log in nor appear in /dev/mapper; Unencrypted media is always automatically mounted as soon as I log in to my system, and if I remove the encrypted USB stick and reattach it to my computer it is automatically detected and mounted instantly even if it was ignored at log-in time.

My first idea was that the system tries to mount the encrypted stick before it is able to ask me for my passphrase so I told my system to remember the passphrase - but this didn't solve my problem.

Hope that I have attached the bug report to the right package (nautilus at least seems to support a gconf setting for automounting).

Kind regards,

     Gunter.

is this still an issue with latest packages there?

It is still there, but has changed slightly:

- I boot my computer with an encrypted memory stick attached. According to lsusb the memory stick has been recognized but unlike an unencrypted media it is not mounted
- I remove the stick and attach it to the USB port another time. It is instantly mounted, and works fine.
- I suspend the computer. Unlike about a month ago the mount point of the stick doesn't disappear, but if I enter a directory there and try to read it (i used the ls command for doing this) i get a
ls: reading directory .: Input/output error
so suspending still doesn't work. 2 minutes later the desktop icon's name of the memory stick changes from the label of the filesystem to "7.9GB encrypted media".
- Unmounting the stick still doesn't remove its /dev/mapper/something entry
- and if I remove and plug in the stick again I am instantly asked for the password but mounting it doesn't succeed.

Found out that both memory sticks I had refuse to work at all if I format them with a FAT filesystem (without encryption, of course) if I try to use them with a Windows or a SunOs engine. Bought new ones and they are automounted correctly => this Bug report can be closed.
