hey qweru,
thanks for reporting this bug. While I understand you point of not logging your browsers activities in the 'private' mode, I'm not sure if we want/need to support your browsers private mode in zeitgeist.
IMHO zeitgeist is there to log *all* your events, which does include activities during your browser is in private mode.

Can you (or someone who is affected by this too) please explain a bit more why you think that zeitgeist should not log browser events in private mode.

I'm setting this but to 'Wishlist' as this is still a feature request, feel free to find a reasonable importance once we discussed this bug further.

Markus

From MozillaWiki:
"The purpose of private browsing is to put Firefox into a temporary state where no information about the user's browsing session is stored locally."

If Zeitgeist still logs these events the purpose of private browsing is nullified. I understand that Zeizgeist should log all events but it should also respect the Private events that the user doesn't want to log.
As a compromise the ZG Addon could report to Zeitgeist that the user is browsing in Private modus but it doesn't tell on which site.

The browser extensions should disable themselves when in private mode,
just like the browser's own history (+ cookies, password saving, tab
restore, etc.).

Why would Firefox disable my extensions when being in private mode?
I still want adds to be blocked and protection against malicious JavaScript code, don't I?

It's really your job to disable logging in private mode, as the whole reason to use private mode is to NOT have a history. Who are YOU to decide for ME when to log stuff :-)
This decision is really up to me, isn't it?
The feature would be practically useless if used together with Zeitgeist.

I consider that to be a bug and not a feature!

"Browser extensions" in my comment stands for "Zeitgeist extensions
for Firefox and Chromium", not "Firefox extensions in general", so no
worries, I totally agree with you ;)

This bug needs to be reopened. It happens in the latest Firefox Nightlies (the Private Browsing code has changed from scratch).

I just tested it:

- Open a new private Window,
- Go to hahastop.com (harmless joke site lol)
- Try finding "haha" in Synapse.
- It brings up the site.

This will most likely affect Firefox in 13.04 (if I'm not mistaken), as by then it might (or probably will) have landed in Firefox.
