Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager

Got a Hauwei K3520 (lsusb thinks it's a Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E620 USB Modem

Network Manager doesn't see it.

It provides two USB serial ports, the first one doesn't respond (data port?) the second one responds to AT commands but won't connect to the internet:

ATI
Manufacturer: huawei
Model: K3520
Revision: 11.314.12.02.00
IMEI: 353436034311737
+GCAP: +CGSM,+DS,+ES

OK
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet"
OK
ATD*99***1#
NO CARRIER

It spits out the following every 30s or so. Asking for a firmware blob? I don't see this on Windows when the driver is installed, when I try to connect with the above sequence, it "just works"...

^BOOT:34311737,0,0,0,72

I've had this working with a

modprobe -r uhci_hcd
modprobe uhci_hcd

It then shows 4 ttyUSB devices and a usb mass storage device

Haven't tried usb-modeswitch yet.

Do you still have problems in Ubuntu 12.04?

Thanks for this update.

I have not yet upgraded to 12.04. Still using 10.04LTS.

I purchased another modem - Huawei K3565 (Rev2) - and this worked first
time. I then disconnected the K3565 and plugged in the K3520 and it worked.

Occasionally I still have problems: "Enable Broadband" is not available on
network-manager.
Rebooting about 3 to 4 times, sometimes using Recovery option and low
graphics mode sometimes seems to solve that problem, but there is no clear
pattern.

Regards,
Jerome.

Jerome; please file a separate bug report for the issues you're having with the applet.

Stefano; looks like a device that was probably requiring mode switching. I think this is fixed starting in Maverick. Are you still seeing issues with that particular device?
