Bug Description

Google Streetview seems to have stopped working with package flashplugin-nonfree 10.0.1.218+really9.0.277.0ubuntu1 on 8.04, Hardy. I've been a happy user for months but on 2010-06-22, on dropping the orange man on the map, a balloon appears saying "To use street view, you need Adobe Flash Player version 10 or newer". It was fine last week.

I think it must only be the check for the version of Flash that's failing because if I visit a site that embeds Streetview, e.g.

    http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-14227569.html

and hit the Streetview link under the main picture, Streetview still works fine. (This isn't a workaround however!)

Not having Streetview anymore is a pain for 8.04 repository users. I've no doubt I could ditch flashplugin-nonfree and install a later version from Adobe's site but sticking to the repos is an attraction of a LTS release.

It would seem that street view now requires flash 10.

For Hardy, the flash version in the Universe archive is still at 9.x, but you can get flash 10 from the partner archive.

Here are instructions for enabling the partner repository:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu#Adding%20Canonical%20Partner%20Repositories

Once enabled, you can uninstall the "flashplugin-nonfree" package and install the "adobe-flashplugin" package. That will get you flash 10.

Changed in flashplugin-nonfree (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid

I suggest (strongly) that you upgrade to Ubuntu Lucid LTS 10.04

Thanks, have switched from flashplugin-nonfree to adobe-flashplugin and Streetview no longer complains. I do think it's far more jerky than before though, but that's something separate.
