Bug Description

When I try to copy CD's into my rythmnbox I get the message "unabl to locate encoding profile for mimetype". I have all g-streamer apps already. I am a very inexperienced computer user so simple steps appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We need some more information from you before we can start working on this bug.

Please run the following command (from Terminal: Applications>Accessories>Terminal) which will attach necessary information:

apport-collect 592178

Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository with 'sudo apt-get install python-launchpadlib'. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report.

Please also answer these questions:

* Is this reproducible with all CDs?
* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

I've also been hit by this bug. and it's reproducible at least on the CD I was importing.

I'm going to add the apport data for this as soon as I can upload it.

I have the same problem. I have tried to upload the apport information, but got:

'You are not the reporter or subscriber of this problem report, or the report is a duplicate or already closed.

Please create a new report using "apport-bug".'

Please can you tell me how to do this?

Also, this is a problem I am having with just one CD. I wondered if it had anything to do with DRM?

No. It has only happened on one CD and the same thing doesn't seem to
be happening today. I installed some extra scripts from the repository
yesterday and this is the first time I've restarted the computer, maybe
that's why? Sorry, I may have been wasting your time, but I didn't get
a restart message last night.

> * If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

Initially, I just put the CD in the drive and tried to add it to the
library. It asked for two extra scripts which I downloaded. I
restarted the program, but not the computer. I got the "unable to
locate encoding profile for mimetype" message.

Update. The Cd copied correctly this morning, but still generated the
error message (Actually a number of instances of it - possibly one for
each track). This is the only CD I know of that this happens with.

Does this CD work on another CD player, eg on Playstation, BD/DVD player, portable CD/DVD player, etc?

That means the issue being on rhytmbox and not on the CD. Marking as confirmed since this bug is affecting 4 people. Thank you again for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please submit any future bugs you may find.

Bug also affects me, happens with more than 1 CD, tried the apport command, and it came up with the same response as above: 'You are not the reporter or subscriber of this problem report, or the report is a duplicate or already closed.'
Haven't had any issues with this before, always copied CD's without a problem, and I've also copied music from an ipod to my computer once before without an issue. This bug started after I tried copying music from my computer to an ipod for the first time, had success with that, but wonder if there's a connection. I also signed up for launchpad. Thanks for your help!

I may have had this same problem. After several restarts of rhythmbox and reinserting the cd it would fail each time upon reaching the same track. The track in question contained a question mark in the name and another had an exclamation mark. I restarted rhythmbox and renamed the tracks (removed the special chars) and encoding proceeded fine. Hope this helps.

I had this problem when trying to extract a CD on which one of the track titles had quotation marks in it. After removing the quotation marks the CD was extracted to my library without problems.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running apport-collect <bug #> and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
