Just started to use this new indicator but I am unable to use my USB modem for 3G internet. It just isnt shown in the list.

Even after installing ofono, my modem isnt shown when running 'cmcc list'.
It is a Huawei E182E

The same for my modem which works with network manager.
Vodafone K3765 (Huawei based chip)

ofono does not output anything in the console, maybe it needs to have a --debug option, but I don't know which one.
However the key blinks with the blue led, so this means that it finds the umts signal.

Huawei support in ofono was introduced only recently. With the release of ofono 0.24 (which hopefully happens this week) huawei support should improve.

Sorry, I got confused with the releases. Actually Huawei support in 0.23 should be better and it was released last weekend:

Mark, Chris Coulson did the last update. I'll ask him for an ofono update to 0.23.

There was even more fundamental issue. The ofono plugin was not enabled in connman and that's why 3G modems didn't work at all. I missed this because I was always using self compiled versions of connman and only tested wifi with the version from the PPA.

Chris upload connman 0.53+git.20100614t210259.168c346+dfsg-0ubuntu0.10.04.1~ind2 to the indicator-network PPA which now contains the ofono plugin. Also he uploaded 0.23-0ubuntu0.10.04.1~ind1 which has improved modem support, especially more Huawei modems are now supported.

In case your modem is not supported, please file a new bug. More information here:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ConnMan/Reporting

I also updated connman wiki page related to 3G:

Mmm. No packages for maverick? should I stick to the lucid repository even if I'm in maverick?

Nicolo, latest connman is not uploaded to maveric yet but should be there next week. About your modem problem, ofono debug logs would help a lot to understand about the issue. Instructions here:

I wasn't asking an upload in maverick, but a maverick package inside the ppa.
As you see only indicator-network is present for maverick.

Thanks for the tip, this is the ofono output.

Please try with latest ofono from maverick. Or, even better, please try the daily builds:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ConnMan/DailyBuilds

Also I would like to know the modem's make, model and usb id.
