Bug Description

Binary package hint: kpackagekit

In Kubuntu 9.10, KPackageKit was made to depend on kdebase-workspace-bin, as it was the binary package that housed the KDE policykit dialog. In Kubuntu 10.04 this dialog was ported/moved to the polkit-kde-1 binary package, but the dependency was never changed in KPackageKit.

As an adverse side effect of this, all KDE applications pull in kdebase-workspace via kdebase-runtime (all KDE apps dep on this), since it recommends kubuntu-debug-installer which depends on kpackagekit, requiring much more KDE than is necessary to run even the most simple of KDE apps.

To fix this, the kdebase-workspace-bin dependency should be changed to be a dependency on polkit-kde-1. This has been fixed in maverick, and just needs a lucid SRU.

Accepted kpackagekit into lucid-proposed, the package will build now and be available in a few hours. Please test and give feedback here. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

Fix confirmed. When using proposed and trying to install kate (on a fresh ubuntu-desktop) the number of packages to install is lower (drops from 108 to 82).

Installing kpackagekit on the same machine with proposed enabled, and can confirm that it still works.
