Bug Description

Running Ubuntu 10.4, 32 bit, netbook version.

When trying to *install* mplayer from the Ubuntu Software Center it requests for my password, which i then apply, and after that the following request pops up: "Authentication is required to install software package"

The choices are to Authenticate or Cancel. Neither buttons respond except the X on the top right corner to close out. The install is never started.

Also had the same problem when trying to *uninstall* Rythmbox Music Player.

Hello, I also seem to have this problem - if you're a sophisticated user, could you try to look at bug 499937 to find out whether it's the same as that bug? In that case, both bugs could be merged.

Sadly, I moved away from Ubuntu and had gone back to Windows. For what ever
reason I could not get Skype to work correctly; always sounded horrible on
the receivers side. Since I depend on skype I had to move away from the
os.

It is a shame, I really loved Ubuntu.

Hi,

I am also having the same problem. I am new to Linux / Ubuntu, so apologies for my lack of technical explanation!

Whenever I select something in the Ubuntu Software Centre and click 'install' I have the normal 'Authentication is required to Install software packages' window pop up. I enter my admin password (account password), and the password box disappears.I get the drum noise (single drum hit), the password section gos away and it just sits on the Authenticate Windows.

I am running the desktop 10.04 version and have recently installed all of the Ubuntu Studio packages as per the Ubuntu help forums.

If any logs would help please let me know and I'll post them here.

Thanks.
