Bug Description

Hello there.
I have a particular problem and would like your help.

I am using Ubuntu 10.04, but the same happened in the previous version. From time to time (not always), my screen gets fuzzy and the only solution is to reboot the computer.

My graphic card is an ATI and ubuntu-supported driver (afaik)
sudo lspci | grep ATI
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV350 AP [Radeon 9600]
01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV350 AP [Radeon 9600] (Secondary)

I have xserver-xorg-video-ati and xserver-xorg-video-radeon installed but on the Hardware Drivers window, it says: "No Propertary drivers are in use on this system.".

As you can see from the picture (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/707011/Screenshot-part.jpg), all the screen is fuzzy except the cursor arrow.

Any suggestion is welcome.

Hello Bryce.

The Bug #585034 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/585034) that I've
reported last month haven't got any update since 2010-05-27. I was wondering
if this is because it seems I am the only one having this problem? What can
I do to have someone looking for it, OR (and this might give you more
trouble to you ) what can I do to check and fix the bug for myself? I could
do it but I would need some orientation from you, since I have never done
something like that?

Thank you very much.

Hi Bruce,

I am also seeing this kind of behaviour with latests Ubuntu Maverick 10.10.
The screen gets fuzzy, only the mouse pointer stays ok and can be moved.

Switching to virtual console works, but many message as

[drm:radeon_cs_ioctl] *ERROR* Faild to schedule IB !
[drm:radeon_ib_schedule] *ERROR* radeon: couldn't schedule IB(3).
...

appear.

Could this be possibly fixed by an newer ATI Radeon driver from the Maverick PPA repository?

Thanks, Jörg

Shall I switch AGP mode from 8 down to 4 or less or to -1 to get around this?

What else could help here?

I am running in 1920 x 1080 resolution with BenQ E2220 HD monitor. Using the DVI-D port,
the screen also get sometimes blank (for 3-5 seconds) as if the monitor resyncs. With VGA,
this does not happen.

The issue seems to occur for some flash pages in firefox. If I iconize firefox, then the blanking issue stops.
Is this related or shall I open a new bug?

Thanks, Jörg

InterAnt, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-ati REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.
