Logout in 10.04 causes blank screen/system hang

Using Kubunto 10.04, on attempt to logout from KDE, screen goes blank and system hangs, No response to Ctrl-Alt-Del, must use physical reset.

Using Nvidia accelerated graphics driver v96 installed via Kubuntu Hardware drivers feature

This appears similar to Bug #574344 but is still a problem for me; repeatable every time.

That version is no more supported; please open a new bug report if the actual archive found version also has the same issue.
